The Railway Commissioners having refused to give up possession of the grain export shed, the Harbour Board have placed the matter in the hands of their solicitors, Messrs Harper and Co. Auckland, November 26. The Gasworks Employees Union have opened a subscription list on behalf of the miners at Huntly who are out of work. At a special meeting of the shareholders of the South British Insuranoe Company to. day, it was deoided to reduce the capital of the Company from £2,000,000 to £1,900,000, cancelling the paid-up capital to the extent of £1 per shave upon each of the 64,628 shares now outstanding. Mr Leslie Macarthnr, an expert who re* oently arrived from Australia, says he ia deoidedly pleased with the Puhipuhi field, and that there can be no doubt as to it 3 future. Dunedin, November 26. At the City Council to-night a letter was received from the Solicitor-General, oalling upon councilors to make good the sum of £73 15s, including £ll 5s for the reception of the Governor, £io refund of part of a wholesale license fee and some “shout”, collections. The iffty Solicitor gave the opinion that the first two were-recoverable. The Mayor offered to pay them, but the matter was referred to the Finance Committee, and if paid by the Mayor the sum will be voted to hire as salary. The Medical Association have authorised Dr W. Brown, of Dunedin, who is atpresent in Germany, to interview on their behalf Dr Koch with regard to his consumption cure.

The Wairarapa North County Council received an application for £6OO damagea from the relatives of the late Albert Spackman, who was killed by an accident last month. The Councillors decided to view the scene before replying. The Wairarapa North Rabbit Board have decided to get the report of two diem, terested persons concerning the steps taken for the destruction of rabbits on different properties in this district.
