REEFTON MINING NEWS.

(F.HOM OUR OWN CORRESIMNOTN'I',) Reesto.n, June 0.

Buaines3 during tho early part of the week Was tather flat; numerous inquiries were made, but little or nothing was done. As the week drew to a close matters grew to a more lively character. The Big River sent in the result of a trial crushing of 78 tons, y ielding 14309_ 1 fid wt of retorted gold, averaging 209 to the ton. R'g River. —Thp mine manager reports the pj-qgress of work done foy the month as follows : Tho insjdo y?inze i? down 7Q:t, 40ft of which has been sunk tj;js moflth. At COft the stone pitched west, but is now going down straight. It is o.uly 50ft from the winze now. As we have not beeu sinking on stone, we have onjy obtained about 10 tons, which, being added to what we already had, has made a total of 65 tons up tp date; 03 tons of this has been crushed; the ptlier two tons are in tho buckets of the aerial train. There was fa tons taken out of the slopes, but this only qveraped ahemf, lfdwts, 'By tfijs aflditjou tho quality of t.lie stone taken from tho winze was very much reduced. The win9o on the now (ind is down 46ft ; stone was struck at a depth of 2Qft west of the shaft, A cross, cut is now bping put in from the botiom of (jhayihaft with the view of cutting the reef agai®, 72ft of the new level is now timbered ; the dam is full of water, whioh will be a never failing sup, ply. . , Pandora,—Driving is -being continued on the south track of the reef. Tho country looks fairly promising. Inkerman. —No work has been done since last report. Keep-it-Dark.—The returns for five and a half days’ crushing are 152cz of atnaluam. This is considered very good. The shareholders are looking forward for a dividend during the current month, as they have now a considerable cash balance to their credit in the bank.

Nil Dosperandum.—A rise is now in progress, and until these holes are through, to secure ventilation, work may ho said to bp suspended on tho low level-

No. 2 South Keep-it-Dark—At the north end of the level a nice lode of stone is bejng followed, there being every indication of ..its making into a largo body. No date has been fixed to start crushing, nor will it be until the machine paddock contains the whole of the stone to grass. It will probably be about the middle of the month.

Globe.—The annual report of the Direc* tors sets forth a brilliant future for this claim. Six thousand five hundred and thirty tons of stone has now been crushed during the year, yielding 45310 z 16dwt of gold, which has enabled them to declare seven dividends, amounting to £11,250. The main shaft and well have been sunk to a depth of 270 ft. The reef on the new level has been driven S4ft, the place at the eastern end being 12ft and the western end 4ft, the level giving the great height of 156 ft of backs to be sloped out. Notice has already been given of the result of the last trial crushing of 240 tone. In addition to this immense body of stone brought to light by tho last level, the mine manager reports another find of stone on the old level. From these prospects it would be a difficult matter to fix the line of this claim. Besides these advantages, there are about 7000 tons of tailings already to bo operated upon. Two samples having been furnished to the analy t, Mr Fentin, for assay, he reports that No. I sample gave loz 2dwt and that No. 2 gave loz 15dwt. There was also one sample of pyrites, whioh yielded 2oz 15dwt 22gr. A distance of about 14ft has yet to be driven to plumb the winze, and when this is accomplished the mine will be in order for long and continuous crushing. The money value of the gold won since the date of registration is £35,278.

Welcome.—Application was made to the Warden to grant an order for the Directors to enter the adjoining claim, the Eureka, for the purpose of defining accurately the boundaries of the two claims. The order was granted,, and is now in progress under Mr Watkins, the surveyor. Eureka. —At a special meeting at the Warden’s Court, an application was made by this Company for an injunction to restrain the Welcome Compauy from doing work, on the ground, it was alleged, and evidence was oalled to support it, that the Welcome Company was exceeding the authority of the order, and doing work not necessary to a survey. The Warden declined to give the order, as he was not in a position to decide what work was essential to a survey, but the Welcome Company must leave the claim in the same order in •which they found it. To-day a committee of Directors of the Eureka Company have visited their mine, in order to” see for themselves how far the Welcome Company had exceeded.the work necessary for a survey. Lyell United Alpine.—The No. 7 level has been extended 22ft. The driving is still fair. Both rook drills are at work on No. 6 level. The tributors are still breaking down stone in the south slopes. The stone does not look as well as usual. On No. 4.-* level have driven a cross cut of 60ft without success.
