Melbourne, December 3.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company held their usual weekly sale yesterday, submitting a fairly representative catalogue of 6752 bales, of which 5093 were sold, making, with 454 sold on Saturday, 5547 bales for the week. The attendance exceeded that at any previous sale, and notwithstanding the advices from London, competition was animated, and prices were firmly main • tained for all, except inferior and medium qualities, which were slightly easier. Greasy wool realized Is Id, washed fleeces Is 3d, and scoured Is 6fd, several large lines being sold at the latter price. • ' London, December 2.

At the colonial wool auctions to-day 10,700 . bales were offered. The market is irregular. Australian greasy crossbred is lower than at the close of last sales/ •

The market is irregular, and prices are receding-—Greasy, to Id: scoured, fdtolfd; faulty, If d to 2fd below September closing rates; Crossbreds average Id reduction;. Competition with thef new clip is better, and there are only nominal reductions in the finer sorts. j

Messrs R. Goldsborough and Co. have received the following telegram from London, December 1: —Inferior greasy wool i 3 from Id to lid lower than at the close of last sales ; good greasy from f d to Id lower ; scoured, from if to 2d lower. Crossbreds are •firm, but merinos declining. Continental buyers are only operating slightly, and the Americana are not buying. A considerable quantity has been withdrawn. =. ;

The New Zealand Loan and Mer cantile Agency Company have received the following telegram from their London office, dated 30th ult.:— Wool —Th 9 sales opened to-day at an average decline of about 5 per cent on last closing rates. The principal decline has been m medium and inferior greasy and scoured. Wools of. a faulty character are neglected. The market for coarse crossbreds is unchanged. The attendance of both Home and foreign buyers is good, but competition is dull. There is much irregularity in the bidding. The opening catalogue contained 10,000 bales. The sales comprise about 124,000 bales, and 9500 bales have been sent to the manufacturing districts.

Messrs Murray, Roberts, and Co. have received the following cable message from their London representatives, Messrs Sanderson, Murray, and Co. : London, December 4. The market continues very weak, and shows a downward tendency; 22 per cent, of the wool offered has been bought in. Scoured merino is selling at prices equal to those of the third series of sales.
