(united press association.)

Invercargill, September 27. The Bluff Harbor Board to-day confirmed a resolution to reduce the port and other charges to a large extent. Twenty-five applications for two cadetships in the pilot and trig services of the Board, at £6O a year, were received, some from men of 30 to 40 years, and including shepherds, farm laborers, blacksmiths, clerks, and teachers. Two lads belonging to the ci-trict were appointed. It was resolved to call for tenders for dredging the deep-water berth for large steamers at the wharf. The Board have a Priestman dredging plant, but it has proved most unsuitable and expensive, the bottom being hard.
