BURGLARY IN MANNERSSTREET.

A JEWELLER’S SHOP ENTERED.

GOODS STOLEN TO THE EXTENT OF £7OO OR £BOO.

Shortly before 7 o’clock yesterday morning, on Mr H. J. Freeman, watchmaker anti jeweller, Manners-Btreet, proceeding downstairs to open his shop as usual, he discoverel that his premises had been entered from the back, and a large portion of his stock, comprising gold and silver watches, chains, earrings, rings, brooches, lockets, and diamond goods, abstracted. He at once gave information to the police, and the detective force of the city were at once set to work to make inquiries with a view to secure the apprehension of the robbers. From an examination of the premises, it appears that the entry was made through the window of the back sitting-room, opening out on to. a small yard, access to which can be easily gained from the street by a right, of way between the Bible and Tract Depot and Mr D. Garbe’s fishmonger’s shop. The crossbars of the window had been cat to allow of space enough for a man to get through, and once in the sitting-room little difficulty was experienced in getting into the shop, as the intervening doors were not locked. The jewellery was taken from shelves and nails, and must have taken very little time iD collection. Mr Freeman resides with his family in the house, the sleeping apartments being situated in the upper story, and was notarousedby any unuaualnoise during the night. He reported to the police that all appeared to be safe at 10 o’clock the previous night, about which time he retired. Mr Freeman is, however, very reticent about the matter, apd refuses absolutely to give members of the Press any information.
