EDUCATION BOARD.

A special meeting of the Board of Education was held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday morning, for the purpose of opening the voting papers for the election of three members of the Board to fill up the existing vacancies. It was resolved to adjourn until 2 o'clock, which was accordingly done. At that hour there were present—The Hon. C. J. Pharazyn (in the chair), the Ven. Archdeacon Stock, and Messrs. Hutchison and Bunny. Mr. BUNNT suggested that the minutes need not be read over, as this was a special meeting. Besides, it would take half an hour. This course was agreed to. The voting papers sent in by the various school committees were then opened and examined, and the verdict was found to be as follows :- George Beetham, M.H.R, 29; Dr. Newman, 23 ; J. R. Blair, 18 ; Wm. A. Fitzherbert, 14; Rev. T. Fancourt, 10; Edward Morgan, 7. The first three gentlemen were therefore declared elected, and the first named soon afterwards took his seat. Mr. Hutchison said he had to report that, in accordance with the wishes of the Board he had got Mr. Baird, the City Surveyor, to examine the ground in the vicinity of the Terrace School, with a view to its removal, but that gentleman was of opinion that it could not be removed in safety. It was the only thing which kept the hill from falling. A. breastwork would have to he erected to prevent any future slips.

Mr. Bunny detailed what had transpired with the Government with regard to the Petone and Kaitoke schools, particulars of which have been published in this journal. He stated that the Government had not yet sent in their reply. Mr. Hutchison said he had availed himself of the opportunity of speaking about the Te Aro School, and it was stated that a sum of £4500 had been paid in to the Board account for distribution among the various schools. It was resolved that this matter should be considered at the next regular meeting. # Several tenders were opened for outbuildings to the Thorndon school. They were remitted to Mr. Toxvvard, the architect of the Board. The Board then adjourned.
