HOLIDAY TRAVEL

CONCESSION TO STUDENTS RAILWAY PERMITS ISSUED Railway travel permits have now been made available by the Railway Department to Auckland Training College and University College students and boarders at secondary schools who live beyond the 50-mile limit, so that they may go home for the holidays. The permits are issued on the production of certificates, signed by principals and headmasters, that those desiring to travel are bona-fide students. This concession applies only to these pupils and students, and the general restrictions otherwise remain the same as for some months past. Most of the secondary school pupils will be travelling from Auckland on Friday, those with permits going by expresses and others by slow trains. A number will also travel on Saturday and Monday. The schools have received advice that an extra express will leave for the south at 3.30 p.m. on Friday and that there will also be an extra train travelling north on September 11. when tliev are due to return.

Owing to a mild outbreak of chickenpox. King's College is closing for the holidays tomorrow instead of on Friday, and boarders at this school will leave for their homes either tomorrow or on Wednesday.
