CASUALTY CLEARING
NEW ELLERSLIE STATION USE FOR FIRST PARTY
The new casualty clearing station at Ellerslie racecourse was opened on Sat-uj-dav. when a number of sick and wounded personnel returned from overseas were passed through it. The station, which occupies a building erected at the back of the Leger stand, is controlled and staffed bv the Health Department and furnished and administered bv the Auckland Hospital Board. Comfortable and well equipped, the building is so planned as to enable expeditious medical boarding. After being thoroughly examined by a full board, the members of the party passed through the sick and wounded department, where they were given particulars of their grading, informed as to their leave and destinations, interviewed by officers of the Pensions and Rehabilitation Departments, and issued with pay and railway warrants. Those living in' Auckland were then driven to their homes and personnel going south were sent by special trains, which included ambulance carriages. The nursing sisters. Waacs and soldiers from overseas expressed their happiness with the care and comfort given them by the staff of the clearing station.
