TAXICAB ROSTER

INTEODUCTION SHORTLY FIXED HOURS EACH WEEK J Taxicab owners ancl drivers in the Auckland metropolitan area will be re . quired as from Saturday, April 3 } to operate their vehicles according to a schedule of ditties to be provided shortly by the Auckland Taxicab Control Committee. This decision was made at a meeting of the committee yesterday. Under the schedule, periods of five days of eight hours will be worked each week and provision will be made, as far as is practicable, for a rotation of duties. If through sickness or vehicle repairs any licensee or driver is unable to carry out the duties required of him under the schedule, he must notify the secretary of the committee forthwith. Failure to perform the required duties or operating a licensed public taxicab outside the periods fixed by the schedule will render the offender liable to pro., secution. At the request of the committee, the City Council has decided to close the taxicab stand in Queen Street at the Civic Theatre, within the next few days, the object being to disperse the taxis to other ranks. The council decided not to accede to a request to close the Waverley Hotel rank. So that taxis may be able to carry passengers to the aerodrome at Mangere, which is outside the 10-miles limit, the committee agreed, on the request of Union Airways, to extend the boundary of the metropolitan area to include the aerodrome. The committee has called a meeting of taxicab operators and drivers for the purpose of explaining the effect of the recent amendment to the Transport Emergency Regulations, which give additional powers to taxicab control committees, particularly in regard to rostering.
