ASSISTING EX-SOLDIERS
PURPOSE OF LEAGUE (0.C.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday A conference of the Soldiers' Civil Re-establishment League was addressed by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, who said the league would come under the Rehabilitation Council and Rehabilitation Board. Consequently, he would relinquish his supervisory control, but was sure that under the Minister of National Service, the Hon. R. Semple, the league would receive al! the consideration to which it was entitled.
In paying a tribute to the league's work, Mr. Jones said the Government would do all in its power to assist it. The. president of the league, Mr. C. W. Batten, said that over 3000 men had already returned. A great many required assistance before being properly re-established in civil life. In every case where a man had suffered a disability which was likely to be permanent they should aim at equipping him through training him, not merely to become proficient in his new calling, but to become above average by reason of his specialised knowledge.
