RUGBY FOOTBALL
SEASON OPENS NEXT MONTH pi ( h *~f irs' meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Lnion Management Committee for the 1942 season was held last evening. Mr A. A. Baker was unanimously re-elected chairman. „ The Governor-General, Sir Cyril NewaH, notified that he would be pleased to again the office of. patron of the Auckland nugby Football Tjnion. A welcome was extended to the new members of ,the committee, Messrs. L. Drake, H Oakley, W. Apps and J. Taylor, and appreciative reference was made to the services of the retiring members, Messrs. R. Harrup, P. J. Sheehan, G. Orrell and A. L. Simmonds. The Thames Rugby Sub-Cnion applied for affiliation to the Auckland Union and the request was granted. In reference to the playing of Peace Cup matches this season, the Thames Union supported the continuation of the games; Paeroa sufjfßested discontinuance and Waikato could give no opinion at present. It was resolved to await replies from the other unions affected. It' was resolved to place a WTeath on. the Cenotaph on Anzac Day. It was decided to call a meeting of club delegates on Wednesday, April 22. to discuss chiefly the senior competitions. Entries will close the following week at 5 p.m. dominations for the junior competitions close on April 28, and for the junior boys on April 27 at the same hour. The season will open on May 2.
