ROWING ON SATURDAY

NORTH SHORE CLUB OPENS The official opening of the North Shore Rowing Club on Saturday took the form of president's day. There was a good attendance. The Auckland Rowing Association was represented by Mr. C. G. Herdman and the secondary schools by Mr. K. Dellow. In welcoming the visitors, the president, Mr. A. T. Haddon, stated that it was the club's intention to cater for the younger men of the district and get them thoroughly interested in the sport. In doing this and keeping the plant and boat-house in first-class order, the club's soldier members when they returned would feel that their interests had been well guarded. On behalf of the Auckland Rowing Association, Mr. C. G. Herdman congratulated the members upon their achievements. They had been the pioneers in fostering schoolboy rowing, and the results were now being fully shown. Mr. K. Dellow, headmaster of the Takapuna Grammar School, thanked the officials for the assistance given the school in rowing. Ho had never felt any concern about the boys engaged in the sport, and the success the school's crews had gained was an illustration of the careful instruction and guidance given. The wife of the president, Mrs. A. T. Haddon, broke the flag and declared the season open. A set of trial fours for the set of cups donated by Mr. A. T. Haddon was contested late in the afternoon when the water had calmed down.
