TOTAL OF 160.000 MEN The forces upon which New Zealand can rely for its own defence against aggression are outlined in a Government review of the country's effort in the first two years of war. "For home defence," it states, "Xew Zealand can rely on the Navy in Xew Zealand waters, the Royal New Zealand Air Force, members of the Expeditionary Force in camp, the territorials, the National Military Reserve, and the Home Guard, a total of over 160,000 men. "While our minesweepers have swept up enemy mines off the New Zealand coast, other vesels have laid defensive minefields," it continues. "The Royal New Zealand Air Force makes regular reconnaissance flights, and there are always a largo number of trained airmen in New Zealand if active operations should ever be necessary."
