GIRL GUIDES

appeal for leaders An urgent appeal for guiders to lead the guides, the younger members, was made by Miss Ruth Her nek, chief commissioner of Girl Guides for New Zealand, when addressing the annual meeting of the Auckland Prov'nc'al Girl Guides' Association last night. Ihe president. Mrs. Alan Donald, presided. Miss Herrick said the interest taken in the work by Their' Excellencies Sir Cvril and Lady Newall had led to a great influx of guides into the movement. Unfortunately, however the association was not able to say "Let them all come," as there were not enough fruiders to cope with the increasing numbers. The work was of national portance, said Miss Herrick, for the physical. moral and spiritual welfare of New Zealand depended on the children of to-day. The annual report, published in the Herald yesterday, was read by Mrs. <T. A. Watson, provincial commissioner, and adopted. The report of the post guides was read by Mrs. R. J. Coates, who said it was hoped shortly to form a company of post guides at the Wilson Home for Crippled Children. Miss Rima Aitken read the report of the lone guides, and Mrs. Trevor Thomson, the treasurer, read the financial statement. A film depicting the war work of the Girl Guides in England, and including the presentation of two air ambulances to Princess Mary for the Royal Air Eorce from the Girl Guides of the Empire, was shown by Miss Herrick. The following officers were elected:—President Mrs. Alan Donald; vice-presidents, Lady Davis and Mrs. J. A. C. Allum; executive committee, Mrs. A. H. Butler, Mrs. G. J. S. Fisher, Mrs. A Smith Cray, Mrs. R. P. Towle, Mrs. J. B Callan and Mrs. W. 11, Hemingway.
