RESIDENTIAL NURSERY

ASSOCIATION FORMED SCHEME FURTHER ADVANCED The proposal to establish a residential nursery in Auckland to accommodate Iho children of mothers who are ill was carried a step further yesterday afternoon, when it was agreed by resolution to form a residential nursery association. The meeting, which was held in the St. John Ambulance lecture hall, was presided over by the Mayoress, .Mrs. J. A. C. Allum, and was attended by the temporary committee set up two months to go into nays and means of establishing the nursery and by representatives from women's societies in Auckland. It was decided that the interim committee should continue as such and should draft a constitution for presentation at a further meeting, and that the representatives at the meeting yesterday should inform their societies of the decision to establish a residential nursery association and ask the societies to appoint one member to act as an independent member of the association. In presenting her progress report, Mrs. Allum said the men's advisory committee had suggested that the scheme should be sponsored by an organisation, although the promoters o the nursery scheme would be prepared to do all the work, it was felt, said Mrs. Allum, that if it was not possible to obtain suitable premises free of charge, it would be wiser to rent a place' for the first two or three years than to attempt to buy one. It was recommended that the Minister of Internal Affairs should he applied to for a subsidy on all money raised and lor a share 'of art union profits. "There is every reason to believe that we shall get good support in and around Auckland once we launch our campaign," said Mrs. Allum. Considerable discussion took place at the meeting, particularly with regard to whether the project should have another organisation as a sponsor and also as to the status of members of the newlv-formed association, several suggestions in this respect were made bv Mr. J. M- Simson, a member of the men's advisory committee, who had gone into the matter. The general tee - ing of the meeting was in favour of an independent organisation with members acting independently rather than as official delegates of societies.
