DECREE AND DAMAGES

HUNTLY DIVORCE ACTION (0.C.) HAMILTON. Tuesday

A verdict in favour of petitioner was returned by the jury in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day in the defended divorce case in which Joseph Edmund Powell, greaser, Huntly (Mr. J. F. Strang), sought a dissolution of his marriage with Violet Irene Watson Powell (Mr. N. S. Johnson), on the grounds of adultery. William Buchanan (Mr. A. L. Tompkins) was named as co-respondent. Petitioner claimed £IOO damages from co-respondent. Petitioner also asked for the custody of the three children of the marriage. The Chief Justice, Sir Michael Myers, was on the Bench.

The jury found that adultery had taken place, and awarded petitioner £95 damages against co-respondent. A decree nisi was granted, with costs against co-respondeait. The question of ihe custody of the children was reserved for further consideration.
