MAGISTRATE'S TERM
THIRD EXTENSION MADE SHORT STAFF AT AUCKLAND A further extension of 15 days in the appointment of Mr. F. K, Hunt as relieving magistrate at Auckland was made yesterday by the Justice Department. Mr. Hunt's relieving term was to have ended yesterday. Throughout the present year a full staff of permanent magistrates has not been available at Auckland, and to meet the position Mr. Hunt's appointment as relieving magistrate has been extended three times. Originally four magistrates carried out the work at Auckland and on the local country circuit, but the number was reduced early this year through the appointment of Mr. C. R. Orr Walker as chairman of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board. The senior magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, retired at the end of April, but no permanent successor has yet been appointed to his post. In the meantime Mr. Hunt, who retired from the magistracy in 19:56, has been acting in a relieving capacity. He -was first appointed for a period of three montla ending July 31, but his term has been extended at the end ot each successive month.
