AMENDING REGULATIONS
|HY TKLKOHAI'H YVEU/IXOTON. Thursday
Amendments to both the occupational re-establishment emergency regulations, 1910, and the suspension of apprenticeship emergency regit la tions. 19:19, provide that for the purposes of both sets of regulations "His Majesty's Forces" shall apply whether that force is raised in New Zealand or elsewhere. It is also provided that "military service" shall mean continuous whole-time service, not only in tlx* forces, but also as a radio operator where such service is for tbo duration of the war only and commences after the date of the shipping emergency regulations, 19-11. which require the carrying of additional radio operators on ships in the New Zealand mercantile marine.
In respect of apprentices undergoing Territorial training, special provisions set out in the regulations shall prevail. A regulation has been redrafted to clarify the position in regard to the suspension of contracts of apprenticeship while apprentices are on military service and to their revival on the return of apprentices to their civil employment. Further redrafting of the regulations provides that every period of territorial training shall count for the purposes of calculating increments in wages, but should be made up at the end of the apprenticeship term under such conditions as may be laid down by the apprenticeship commit tee. The definition "military service" is also amended in the occupational reestablishment emergency regulations for the purpose of ensuring that the regulations apply where a worker is serving in any of His Majesty's Forces, whether raised in New Zealand or else- \\ here.
