ASSISTANT TOWN CLERK
CITY COUNCIL'S TRIBUTE
A motion recording deep regret at the death of the assistant town clerk, Second-Lieutenant I). L. Jlobinson, wlio was killed in action in Crete, and sympathy with his relatives, was adopted by the City Council last night. The town clerk, Mr. J. Meiling, in a report, said that Second-Lieutenant Robinson's death would be a great loss to the city, which lie had served since 1924. I!e was a young man of outstanding ability and high moral character, and it appeared that he had given the same excellent service in the Army as in civil life. Personally, Air. .Melling added, he had suffered the loss of a loyal colleague and a friend. A letter was received from the late Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, offering his sympathy. In his six years' association with Mr. Robinson, said Sir Ernest, he had been able to appreciate the full value of his ability and work. No vouns official of his acquaintance snovrta greater promise or coyld have looked forward to a brighter future. The Mayor, Mr. J. A. C. Ailum, recalled that Mr. Robinson had rendered yeoman service in carrying out the whole of the preparatory work in connection with the council's £2.000,000 loan conversion in 1934. He expressed his personal regret.
