SOLDIERS WANT MONEY
REPLACING PERSONAL GEAR (0.c.) CHRISTCHUHCII, Tuesday Urgent appeals from soldiers for money to replace personal gear lost in the evacuation from Greece have been fairly general in Christehurch households recently. Some men had small credits in their paybooks with which to replace shaving gear, other toilet necessities and the little odds and ends which help to bridge the gap between army life and home. Many, however, were not so fortunate, as exemplified in a message stating: "Safe, lost everything. Send £15." „ "Could you sond mo £lO to £1- hy the middle of June?" wrote a Christchurch gunner to his parents alter the evacuation from Greece. "At that tune 1 am due for seven days' leave, a"" it is my intention to take it in Palestine. 1 had about £8 balance in »iy paybook when 1 arrived back here, but most of that has gone in purchasing personal gear lost in action, for whip", incidentally, we got no compensation from the Armv. Does my credit all<n for such? If so 1 should bo forever grateful."
