TEMPERANCE WORK
The Auckland District Executive of •the Women's Christian Temperance Union held its monthly meeting recently. -Mrs. Hugh Rasper, district president, presided. A presentation was made to Mrs. A. L. Lewis, who has refeigned her position as district iccoiding secretary prior to leaving to live in Cambridge. Mrs. <J. Joiner was elected to till the vacancy. Sister Jessie, Mrs. Long and the district officers were formed into a committee to go into the question ot establishing a hostel lor Maori girls in Auckland. . A "school oi methods'' was hekl in the Temperance Room on Monday Singing and public speaking were studied at the morning session. A paper was read by Mrs. Tennant. district superintendent for health and nutrition. An address, in which eight took part, occupied the afternoon session. 1 The Auckland district executive entertained a number of mothers of men of the fighting forces at afternoon tea on Monday in honour of Mothers' Day.
