Y.W.C.A. OF NEW ZEALAND [WELCOME BY THE MAYOR VALUE OF THE MOVEMENT The bonds of understanding and friendship that radiated from such a world-wide movement as the Young Women's Christian Association were referred to by the -Mayor. Sir Ernest Davis, when he welcomed the delepates to the seventh national convention of the association yesterday morning. Sir Ernest said that with two million women working on questions affecting the liie and well-being of girls and women in 56 countries, the bonds of understanding and friendship would he of inestimable value when the time came for the building of the new world order. Sir Ernest said he welcomed the opportunity, on behalf of the citizens, of paying a tribute to the war work that had been carried out by the •women of Auckland. They had risen magnificently to the occasion and had never failed to respond to the heavy calls made upon their time, energy and purse. He acknowledged the co- i operation he had received Irom such leaders as Mrs. \Y. I». Wilson. Mrs M liudd. president of the Auckland Y.W.C.A., and Miss Elsie Bennc!. general secretary. ' Mi-s Ethel Law. national general Mieretary of the association, replied on behalf ol the movement, and Mrs. ]'udd. president of the Aucklaoi! branch, thanked the Mayor lor >ae help he had given the Y.W.C.A. (firing his term of office. The business of the conference commenced in the afternoon, when Miss Law, in a review of the work of the past three years, referred to the growth, in membership, particularly among the younger girls' groups. A reception to the delegates was held in the evening, the hostesses being the' Auckland president, Mrs. JUidd. and the board of directors. A dramatic entertainment was presented by girl members of the local association.
