SALT MANUFACTURE
DOMINION POSSIBILITIES [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION'] "WELLINGTON, Saturday In a statement to-day the Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, drew attention to the industry licensing (salt manufacture) notice, *1941, which brings the industry of the manufacture for sale of salt under the scope of the Industrial Efficiency Act. 1936. Mr. Sullivan said this step had been taken on the recommendation of the Bureau of Industry to ensure that the interests of any firm undertaking the manufacture of salt in New Zealand were adequately safeguarded. The industry had possibilities of becoming very important in the Dominion and it was thought that the protection of licensing would afford added encouragement to anyone contemplating commencing in the business. Tlie scope of the industry brought within the provisions of the Industrial Efficiency Act related to the preparation of common salt for industrial or domestic use by evaporation of seawater. So far no one had commenced manufacture, though it was understood that a number of experiments by interested parties were being carried out.
