Sunday The annual tourney of the Rotorua. Bowling Club will open to-morrow morning at the Government grounds, when fours _ play will begin. The second tourney for singles play will begin on Monday, February L. As in previous years, the tourney has attracted full entries from clubs as far afield as Auckland and- Hastings. . ,' . Alanv veteran howlers, including winners of previous Rotorua tournaments, have arrived and were trying out the greens during tlio week-end. RAILWAY COMPETITIONS The Challenge Cup competed for at Frankton by railway bowling teams was won on aggregate by Auckland. The recent tourncv hv'ld b.V the Auckland Hallway Club was won by a Balmoral rink, Reynolds, LurSou, Nimmo and Rowlands. PLAY IN THE COUNTRY Whangarel A Whangarci Club's pair, H Bechre and Brewis, won the ixurs tourney plaved on the Whangarei Bowling Clubs greens on Saturday. The runncrs-up were also a Whangarci pair, Lamb and Orr. J.he proceeds of the tourney, amounting to £l9 4s, were handed by the club to the patriotic funds. Both, the winners and the runnersmi contributed the trophy money to this fund. With the £5 or contributed by the club from the full-rink tourney, the total of £-4 9s went to patriotic funds The rinks event was won by Tlrwin, Glenny, Drury and Wright (St. Heliers), the runncrs-up being H. In the two matches concluded yesterday. Old Boys defeated Claudelands bv an innings and 100 runs, while Hamilton East defeated Hamilton by an innings and 30 runs.
