BRILLIANT PACER

RECORD OF OUR PEGGY STAKE EARNINGS TOTAL £2550 By winning the Champion Handicap nt Epsom on Saturday. Our Peggy established an excellent, record in the race with a second and two firsts in three successive years. In 1038 she was narrowly defeated by Sandusky, going 3.1S 1-5 into second, and last year she scored in 3.17 from Marlene, who failed to concede her 30 yards, after running 3.1 1 1-5. Our Peggy was driven on each occasion hy M. Stewart, who was seen at his best o'n Saturday, whet' he set the pace for the first half-mile in 1.8 and tho mile in 2.15. Sprinting in Brilliant fashion, Our Peggy held off strong challenges from Superior Rank, Worthy Need, Bold Venture and Bayard to win iu 3.1(1. Bold Venture ran 3.15 3-5, and Bayard, who was almost in line, 3.13 4-5. The track record at the distance is held by Uenuku, 3,13 2-5. Our Peggy is owned and trained by F. Smith nt Hamilton, and she has been a good winner at middle distances, although she, has failed in her few attempts at two miles. She. is by Our Thorpe, by O.Y.M. from Lndv Thorpe, from Flora Elmo. Our Thorpe was a high-class pacer, and, although a winner at two miles, did best at shorter jonrnevs Flora Elmo represents the Rothschild 'line. Joy Bird, a useful performer, was also by Our Thorpe from Flora Elmo. Our Peggy is one of the last of tho progeny of Our Thorpe. Our Peggy had only one race as a four-year-old, being unplaced at Cambridge, b»t as a five-year-old she won_ threo times jn succession, scoring in the Waihekc Handicap and the Richmond Handicap at the Auckland February meeting and tho Wainni Handicap at 11 u"t t Park. She has contested 53 races for nine firsts, three seconds and seven thirds, earning £2550 in stakes. It is probable that Our Pegey will later be mated with Josedale Grattan.
