ELLERSLIE WORK

PLEASING MILE GALLOP BRAHMAN AND MENDELSSOHN A pleasing mile gallop by Brahman and Mendelssohn and smart sprints by Sure Pay. Karatoki, Esquire and Sir Bean were features of the work at Ellerslie 011 Saturday, when the gning was fast. The course proper, with the polos 40ft out. was available for galloping. The No. 3 grass and the. tan were also used. On the course proper, Karatoki pleased more than Kingcraft over three furlongs in 37 I-ss. Karatoki appears to have taken no harm from his race iu the Queen's Plate, in which he failed to do as well as expected, and he may be one of the hardest to beat in the Fergusson Handicap to-day. Sure Pay gave Golden Bonnet a break and beat her comfortably over four furlongs in 49 3-ss. Sure Pay is improved and should run well to-day. Esquire easily beat Little Ruse over six furlongs in 1.18. Brahman and Mendelssohn were responsible for a sound mile in 1.43 4-5. They are in first-class order. Sir Bean went with them over the first five furlongs in 1.3 3-5 and was then eased. All appears io have gone well with Sir Beau since he won at Awapuni last Saturday week and he is likely to be a good favourite for the King's Plate to-day. Other gallops were:—Three Furlongs.—British Mint, 30 l-ss; Gold Pay beat an unnamed companion in 37 2-ss. Four Furlongs.-—Wee Pay and Our Gold. 51 3-ss; Ballivor, 51 1-ss; Last Survey bent The Pacifist, 51 3-ss; White Mark, 52 2-ss; Pern, 51 3-ss; Lady Aeusiila. 51 s; Aqueduct and Greek Dancer. 51 1-ss; Camilla and Josette beat Bronze Bell. 51 2-ss; Digger Jim, 525; Olunaha. 50 4-ss; Miss Te Koura, 525; Cheval de Bataille. 50 2-ss; Forest Acre and Black Majesty. 53 3-ss. Sardue (Gemmell) led King Luine over four hurdles. Some smart sprints were recorded yesterday morning, when iho No. 3 grass provided fast going. The best gallop was six furlongs by Foxsen and Acreman. and Don't Forget also went pleasingly over five furlongs. On the grass, Don't Forget, after running flic fir«t two in 2ts. was going strongly at the end of five furlongs in 1.1 4-5. He seems to be all the better for his race in the Christmas .Handicap, in which he was prominent for the greater part of the way. Wardress dashed over threo furlongs in 37 Foxsen was going better than Aereman after running six furlongs in 1.13 !-•>. If was a good effort and Foxsen is very fit. Premature went iu dashing style over four furl'ptigs in 48s. She is very speedy and should run prominently to-day. Enrich placed furlongs behind in 1.1-1 3-5. He seems to have benefited bv his outing in the ChrMmns Handiean and should be in pond order to contest the Or eat Northern Derby on Wednesday.
