Earn Avis and Royal Pilot, winners of the divisions of the Trial Stakes, and Foxwood, who scored a clear-cut victory in the Frankton Handicap, registering pleasing efforts. Rara Avis, a three-vear-old hv "Bronze Eagle from Lady Robinson, is speedy and his future appears bright. He was turned out in nice condition by K. ,T. lieaton. Royal Pilot. a three-year-old by Flying Prince from Soultrain, owned arid trained by E. L. Collins at Horoliu, attracted further attention by his second to Gold Money Song in the Tauwharc Hack Handicap. For one who had only secured his first success on Saturday, his effort in finishing well ahead of such seasoned horses as Veritable, Te Kaha, Forest Bridge and others is an indication that he will be heard of frequently. In running second to Rara Avis in the first division of the Trial Stakes Kingcraft, who had previously shown promise, drew attention to his prospects of leaving the maiden section at an early date. Kingcraft is well placed in the Melrose Maiden Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday and with any luck he should race prominently. Foxwood, a three-year-old by Foxbridge from Hazel wood, looked improved for her race on Saturday, when she whs a little unlucky. 6he was splendidly conditioned by 0. T. Mitchell, who has had many years of success in the trotting sport. Cambria registered his second success in the Tama here .Stakes, his previous victory having been in the Nursery Handicap at Avoudale in September. The relative to Bronwen is a smart, well-mannered colt and his ability to begin quickly is a Fine asset. Cambria is engaged in the Cambria Handicap at Ellerslie on Saturday, for which he has been rehandicapped at 0.1. This should mlt trouble him, although he will be required to go a furlong further than in his earlier races. Rakanui May Do Better Although he was making his initial appearance, Himalaya, a fine-looking youngster by Bulandshar from Pass On, was the medium of solid support in the Ruakura Stakes. He missed the jump-out and was never dangerous. Himalaya, who is owned by Mr. A. J Court and trained by F. Smith, may show early improvement. Rakanui was fancied and beaten in the Army Hack Handicap, but he should not be discredited for the .failure. From (lie fact that lie was badly drawn, he was forced to cover a good deal of extra, ground, but,, revealing a fine turn of speed, was prominent until the last pinch, when he weakened. Rakanui claims an engagement in the Takapuna Plate at Ellerslie on Saturday and may do better. Another Takapuna Plate candidate. Gold Money Song, was credited with two prood performances. He was a close second to Foxola in the Taupiri Hack Handicap and won the Tamahere Hack Handicap with the greatest of ease. On each occasion Gold Money Song left the barrier smartly, which was in marked contrast to some of bis previous displays. Success of Foxola In winning the Taupiri Handicap Foxola recorded her third consecutive success, in each of which she revealed speed and stamina of a high order. The Foxbridpre filly tcives the impression that she will reach a high standard. Foxola is in the Ponui Handicap on Saturday, for which she has been rehandicapped at'u.fi. Trig Station, a four-year-old by Surveyor, won the Army Hack Handicap from end to end and was not discredited in being shaded in the Hack Cup by the consistent Lord Waitangi and Palmint. In this race Trig Station ran in the colours of Mr. A. Lile, of New Plymouth, and carried 9.2 in great style. He has been rehandicapped to 9.8 in the Ponni Handicap at Ellerslie. Lord Waitancri thoroughly deserved his success in the Hack Cup. as iu nine previous starts he was only once out of the money. He ran a very useful second to Trig Station on Saturday nnd the main surprise about his win was the good price returned. Saccone, who won the Coronation Hurdles at Avoudale from Black Musk, made a fine effort in the Waimai Hurdles on Saturday, suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Gaine's Choice.
