PATRIOTIC WORK
.THE FRANKLIN ZONE SEWING AND KNITTING [from our own correspondent] PUKEKOHE, Tuesday Excellent work was reported at a meeting of the Franklin zone of the women's Patriotic executive, which was attended by delegates from the surrounding districts. In the report presented by the secretary, Miss K. L. Brown, it was stated that 496 gift parcels had been packed and sent to Wellington. In addition 145 pairs of gloves had been forwarded to Hobsonville Air Base, and 2SI bala- j clavas, 260 pairs of mittens, 205 scarves and 339 hussifs had been sent to Wei-' lington. There were a number of completed articles on hand which were to bo held until required in Wellington. Further wool had been received for scarves, mittens and socks, and wool purchased for pullovers for the men working the trawlers in the North Sea. The Lady Gahvay Guild continued to function satisfactorily. It was hoped to have nearly all the clothing packed and despatched before Christmas. To date, 5-i cases, containing 5000 garments, had been sent to Auckland for despatch to London. It was decided that in each of four centres, Papakura, Tuakau, Waiuku and Pukekolie, a welfare officer be appointed, to whom soldiers' dependants in need of help could appeal.
