(Ponsonby).—To remove the crystal stains, lay on a paste of peroxide and cream of tartar. Leave for some hours, then wash off. Repeat the process if necessary. Mending Pyrex L.S. (Boval Oak) states that she has broken a pyrex dish and would be grateful for information on how to mend it. The break is a perfectly clean one. Frosting a Window M.L. (Te Aroha). —Dissolve Epsom salts in hot water, making it a very strong solution. Brush on to the glass while the solution is still hot and as it cools it will deposit crystals leaving the glass effectively frosted. Shortening a Raincoat A.K. (Te Kauwhata) has sent the following method for a Tuakau reader: —Cut the coat to the desired length, leaving half an inch to turn up. Then brush bicycle solution along the bottom an inch wide. Leave to dry for two or three minutes, then turn up the halfinch and press down firmly with a black block of wood. Smear over with freneh chalk on top of hem. Do not touch with anything hot. Preserving Tomatoes J.M.M. (Tokoroa) states that she has been successful in bottling tomatoes in ordinary beer bottles. Put ripe tomatoes in preserving pan without any water and place ever slow boat until juice begins to run. Increase heat and stir occasionally to keep from burning. Boil up well, strain through a colander, and return puree to pan. Add a little salt and boil up again. Have bottles hot and /ill each to the top with boiling puree and cap at once. The secret of good keeping: is twice boiling, full bottles, and immediate capping of each bottle as it is filled.
