TERRITORIAL' TRAINING SERVICE OFFER COMMENDED A proposal by the New Zealand Bible Training Institute for the territorial service of its 33 students Was commended by the Auckland Area Manpower Committee when it was mentioned at a sitting of the committee at Papakura yesterday. The secretary of the committee. Mr. L. N. Harris, said the institute had written pointing out that all the students were single men of military age. By virtue of a Cabinet decision, the institute could ask for adjournments sine die in the case of all called in thf ballot who had begun their training prior to tho outbreak of war, and tin) committee would be bound to follOiV that course. Bather than that, the institute asked that the 23 who had been called in tho first and second ballots should enter camp on January 7,. and the remaining ten, who had not yet been drawn, should be allowed to enter at the sama time, Mr. Harris added. If this course could be adopted, the institute offered to change its year's programme of studies. The committee had no power to meet the request regarding the ten not yet drawn, but the attitude of the institute was commendable, as was tlia evident willingness of the students to serve. The deputy-chairman, Mr, L,. _J; Kendall, said the offer was praise-i worthy, and the committee was pleased with the attitude of the institute and tho students. Mr. Harris said the cases of the 2balloted men would be "brought before tho committee later in the week.
