FREE FISH MEAL
RESIDENTS OF PONSONBY LOADED VAN IN COLLISION Many Ponsonby households unexpectedly had fish for dinner yesterday, for, after an Auckland Seine Boat Association van had been involved in a collision at the intersection of Hepburn and JBeresford Streets in the morning, an official of the association invited housewives to help themselves from the fish scattered over the road. A variety of tastes was catered for, the bill of fare including smoked fish, several types of fresh fish, scores of crayfish, and for those even more discriminating there was whitebait. Basins, pots and baskets were borne away loaded •to the brim, while some women simply filled their aprons. The driver of the van was Mr. John Stanley Vella, married, aged 39, of 11a O'Neill Street, Ponsonby. He suffered injuries to his back, and was admitted to the Auckland Hospital. His condition at a late hour last night was not serious. The van and the car involved in the collision were both extensively damaged.
