NEXT ELECTION
MINISTER'S REFERENCE A STATEMENT DENIED The Hon. H. G. R. Mason, AttorneyGeneral, writes as follows: My attention is called to a letter in Thursday's Hbiiau), in which Mr. B. H, Kingston alleges that at an interview on May .'VI last "Mr. Mason definitely stated that there would be no general election next year." This allegation is quite incorrect. No such definite statement was made, nor words used capable of that interpretation. Nothing was said on the matter that purported to bo other than speculation.
I was pointing out that the war would probably become more dreadful and I emphasised that in this and other matters mentioned during the interview it was quite unsafe to make assumptions as to the limits within which the future would follow an expected course.
