MARCH BY TROOPS
AUCKLAND BATTALION CONCLUSION OF TRAINING PLANS FOR WEEK-END An opportunity to appreciate the results of the Government's intensive home defence training course for territorials will be given Aucklanders on Saturday morning, when the Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment, will march through the city. The battalion is the first of the northern district units to complete the course and will round it off on Sunday afternoon with a ceremonial parade at its camp in the Epsom show and trotting grounds.
Under the command of LieutenantColonel C. P. Worley, V.D., the battalion will begin its march from the Domain at 10.30 a.m. The route to be followed will be Park Road, Grafton Bridge, Karangahape Road, Queen Street, Customs Street East, Beach Road, Parnell Road, through Newmarket and along Manukau -Road to the camp.
As the battalion passes the Town Hall a salute will be taken by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. The time will be about 10.45. The men will march with sidoarms and rifles and they will bo led by the battalion band. Vickers gun, Lewis gun, mortar and motorcycle platoons will be included in the parade, and bringing up the rear will be a section of the battalion's mechanised transport. The battalion will be inspected on Sunday afternoon in the Show Grounds oval by the officer commanding the northern military district, Colonel N. W. McD. Weir, N.Z.S.C., who will be given a general salute. After his inspection there will be a march past. The inspection is timed for 2.30, and the public will be admitted to the camp from 1.30 to 4.30. They will be able to watch the parade from the grandstand.
OFFICERS AND N.C.O.'S PARADE TO-MORROW AFTERNOON After spending two months at the Army district school, Narrow Neck, officers and non-commissioned officers of the Hauraki,. Waikato and North Auckland Regiments, and the Auckland Company of the New Zealand Scottish Regiment, will march through the city to-morrow afternoon before proceeding on Friday to the camps, where they will be joined on Tuesday •by other ranks of their units. The march will begin at the ferry building at about 4 p.m. and. will go by way of Albert Street and Wellesley Street West to Queen Street, a salute being taken outside the Civic Theatre by Colonel N. W. McD. Weir, N.Z.S.C., officer commanding the northern military district.
