BETTING IN HOTEL

FINE OF £2O IMPOSED A charge of bookmaking in a hotel at Otahuhu on September 14 was admitted by Maurice Nathaniel Ritchie before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday. Senior-Sergeant Daly said a constable saw accused with betting slips and material in his hand in the hotel. When asked if ho had any other material accused produced a double chart for a race being run tliat day. Ho had taken about £6O in bets for the week and was quite frank about the matter. Accused had about £4O in Ins possession at the time. He was married and was employed as a storekeeper at a local works. The magistrate said accused was not working on a very small scale. Ho was fined £2O.
