VAST REDISTRIBUTION EXPULSION OF ALIENS NEWLY-CONQUERED TERRITORY LONDON, March 28 A vast redistribution of the German population is now in full swing. Already tens of thousands of Germans have been moved to newly-conquered territories, or from neighbouring countries, such ."S Italy, Hungary, and Rumania, and plans are now being made to transfer a total exceeding 2,000,000. The aim is to expel from the conquered territories all alien people;;, and to replace them with Germans from the Reich, who are, in turn, replaced in the Reich by people of German descent from outside the Reich. The German Foreign Ministry announces that plans are being prepared to bring in 750.000 Germans from Transylvania (Rumania), 600,000 from Yugoslavia, and 480,000 from Hungary. Already all Germans have left Latvia, 15,000 have been transplanted from Estonia, and the migration of 150,000 from the Polish Ukraine is progressing. The Tyrol ese from Italy must be added, and Germans from tiie Urkraine are now pouring across the former Polish frontier to Germany in cattle trucks and motor-lorries. A senior German official, in an article in the Nazi newspaper, Landpost, says the transfer of these vast populations was long being prepared, but could not be realised hitherto for lack of territory. The plans were now being speeded up.

These officers were employed solely on ground duties and at no time since the outbreak of the war has either of them taken part in active operations against the enemy. Official reports of air operations are issued only bv the Air Min- ; istry, or from the headquarters of the I Royal Air Force, and no claim is included in any such report until the evidence has been fully examined and the claim authenticated. SCREW ON RUMANIA NAZIS TRY PERSUASION VISITS BY MANY OFFICIALS LONDON, March 28 Yet another crisis over Rumania has blown hot and cold and with its dissipation have gone some of the cloud of rumour. The diplomatic correspondent of the Times sets out to clarify the situation. Referring to reports proclaiming, first, "Fresh Na*u Ultimatum," and then "Carol's Defiance of Hitler," he says that the truth lies between these two extremes of diplomacy. . . The Germans certainly are bringing pressure to bear on Rumania, hoping to gain a monopoly of her oil., wheat, edible fats and vegetables, but so far, at any rate, that pressure is muffled. "The Germans a year ago," adds the correspondent, "made the mistake of bullying. They have since decided to try persuasion and reason, as masks for their intended economic domination. "In Bucharest, as in many Balkan capitals, they have enormously increased the staff at the Legation, and keep well over a score of 'journalists' at large. "Dr. Karl Clodius, the German Economic Ambassador-at-large, pays regular visits, accompanied by a swarm of officials."
