INTERCOLONIAL MAILS

Sir, —What department is responsible for the censorship on mail closing times in New Zealand for Australian and Island mails? Notice of any overseas mail closing is strictly forbidden here, yet in Australia and Fiji (at least) no such restrictions exist. Correspondents both in Sydney and Melbourne were able to state that the Post Office in those cities had published the date and hour for closing the mail received to-day some days prior to the actual closing. Business men in Australia (also in Fiji) are thus saved considerable waste of time with their correspondence. It is appreciated that exact movements of ships may have to bo hidden from the public, but surely the New Zealand Post Office could give notification of exact times and dates each week for closing of Australian and Pacific mails without endangering the nation's safety.
