R. CARRICK WINS TITLE The final of tho Auckland provincial amateur snooker championship for the Billiards, Limited, Cup was played last evening at the showrooms of Messrs. Billiards, Limited. R. Carrie!; defealed tho title-holder, L. F. W. Holdsworlh by three straight games, 78—215, 70-—:»>, 70—15. In the first frame both players potted with accuracy. Carrick made a break of 12 and Holdsworlh replied with a similar score. Carrick quickly added two blacks to his total, but the title-holder secured a pink at his next visit. Carrick broke a brief spell of safely piny by a nicely-played break of 17, and had a useful lead with (he colours left ou Ihe table. He cleared the table up to the black at his next visit, winning comfortably by r.2 points. Carrick soon gained Ihe lead in Ihe second frame. His positional play was excellent and this proved a deciding factor. Holdsworlh. who was playing steadily, got within striking distance when the last red was polled. Carrick gained points from snookers at this stage and, although Holdsworlh retaliated, he did not meet with much success. Carrick clinched the game soon after by taking all the colours to win by 10 points. Carrick gave a brilliant display in Ihe third game and made several useful breaks. Holdsworlh. who made the most of his opportunities, found the winner too consistent.
