APPEAL FOR MEMBERS
karekare surf club LOSSES BY ENLISTMENTS An urgent appeal for members for the Karekare Surf Club has been made by the president, Mr. E. I).-C. Badham, following the fatality on Monday when Mr. James Sellar was drowned after rescuing two other young men who were in difficulties. Mr. Badham said the club was unable to provide the usual patrol, on the beach as 19 out of a possible *25 active members have enlisted, and two are at present in hospital. , , .. Mr. Badham adds that while tins enlistment record is one of which the club may be justly proud, it unfortunately' leaves few members to carry on the good work of the past four years. The appeal made by the club president is directed to any past members, and to any young man of good constitution and build who is also a good swimmer. Mr. Badham says transport is provided for members at a nominal figure and other concessions are made, while there is a good instruc"tor who is willing to devote his time to training young men in surf work. "Bv joining our club a very necessary and humane work will be carried out and accidents such as the one on Mondav can be averted," savs Mr. Badham. 6n' behalf of the club Mr. Badham expressed sympathy with the relatives of the'lnto Mr. Cellar,, and also thanked the Piha Surf Club for its prompt aid.
