TROTTING WORLD

RI'NNEItS AT EPSOM LEELEETA MUCH . IMPROVED ■■ v BRILLIANCE OF 'MONGOLIAN WORTHY MERIT A WINNER BY ABAYDOS From every point of view the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting was a splendid success, the totalisator turnover of £100,973 being the largest return at an October meeting for 13 years. Tho racing never lacked interest in spite of over-sized fields in many races, and the course has seldom been in better order at this time of the year Lcclcela and Mongolian were tho only horses to win moro than one race, but Reel Flush appeared unlucky not to accomplish the same feat. Lcelcota was turned out in great order by R. Dunn, who trains for Mr. Wilfred Johnslono, and she was cleverly handled by A. W. Broughton. When educated us a two-year-old by C. G. Loe, Loeleeta displayed promiso, but proved raco shy. Her sire, Petor Bingen, a champion pacer, first raced as a trotter, and Rota Iluon, dam of Leclccta, was a good mare by Petcrota from Tot Huon. Mongolian gavo L. F. Borkett well deserved success,, as ho travelled a long way with ono horso. Through failing to go away until all hope wus past, ho showed a rare burst of speed in going: after tho field tho first day, and tho effort did not pass unnoticed. By going 3.20 2-5 to win tho Junction Handicap, Mongolian attracted further attention to his prospects in the Insulation Handicap, and he was again successful, going 4.20. By Grattan Loyal, wlioso stock improve with age, Mongolian is from a Logan Pointer marc. Ho has won threo races in four starts for Berkett and has. proved a find for Mr. W. S. Clark, who got tho pacer for a trifle. Revision Shows Speed M. Stewart is developing a habit of winning with novico horses, and ho repeated his effort of tho August. meeting, when ho won the divisions of the 3.5 class with ; Belfast Jack arid Young Parry, by taking both stakes of the Improvers' Handicap, with Wishful and Rovision.' Wishful, who disappointed at Wellington, was improved and won decisively. Sho is by Jack Potts from Hopo Dillon, and is a full-sister to Pot Luck, both being related maternally to tho New Zealand Trotting Cup winner Great Hopo. Tho four-year-old Rovision lived right up to her promise of last season, when sho ran second to Aldershot in tho New Zealand Trotting Derby, by running round a big fieid on Monday to register 2.47 from a 3.4 mark. Rovision is by Jack Potts from Olivo Turmoil, and her younger brother, Sir Julien, won the New Zealand Sapling Stakos in tho record tiino of 3.21 2-5. Revision is now owned by Mr.. E. Montgomery, who appears to havo secured a young pacer of moro than avorago ability. . Worthy Merit has made improvement since going into the care of M. Stewart, and his success in the Hillsboro' Handicap was popular, as the trotter races in the interests ot Mr. E. G. Bridgens, president of tho Auckland Trotting Club. Worthy Merit has been through various, hands, including J. S ; . Shaw, B. J. Macklo, who won races with him last summer, S. A. Edwards and L. F. Bcrkott. Worthy Merit is bred on sounrl lines, being by Worthy Bingen front Meritorious, a useful trottor botli in saddle and harness.

The return to winning form of Ringtrue was one of the features of the racing, and the fact that he ran 3.18 3-5 makes it evident that ho is still a good pacer. By Travis Axworthy from Bertha Belle, he gave promise a few years ago of reaching a high standard, but was one of those to suffer by the handicapping system, which caused his owner to temporarily retire him to tho stud. Ringtruo is of the same family as Great Bingen, Peter Bingen and Great Parrish. One of the nio.il popular wins was that of J. Gee with Kewpie's Queen, a five-year-old daughter of Peter Bingen and the prolific producer Kcwpie, seven of whose progeny of eight to race are winners. The non-winner'is Kewpie's Binsen, who has earned .£'24o "in place-money. Kewpie's Queen and Kewpie's Bingen are full relatives, and the other Ivewpie products are Kewpie's Giiy, who has a line-looking two-year-old by Jack Potts. Kewpio's Triumph, Kewpie's Bond, dam of Bold Venture, Kewpie's King, Kewpie's Crest and Kewpie's Jewel. The record of Ivewpie, a daughter of Petoreta, is one that will take some beating. '

In winning the Electric Handicap for the second year in succession. Our Peggy demonstrated what a fine sprinter she is in her class. She was turned out in great heart by her owner-trainer, F. Smith, and was capably handled by M. Stewart, who made full use of his handicap and a good getaway, thus causing those behind him to do their work all the way. She is likely to be heard of again in the class. Gay Moko at Her Best Gay Moko was seen at her best to win the Mountain Handicap, as she lost ground at the start, but showed a rare burst of speed to reach tlio front and hold off all challenges. If she had not struck trouble at the home turn and damaged a tyre on (ho .second day, Gay "Moko would again have taken a hand in the finish. She is closely reiated to the good trotters Waikaha, Peter Pirate and Pirate's Last, and is at homo on top of the ground. Great Surprise was second in each of two starts, and, although he had every chance on the second day, he failed when challenged in the final finish by Worthy Merit. The half-brother to Young Rodney has not been up very long and some improvement can bo expected when he makes his next appearance, which may be at Hamilton, if the limits are suitable. With the exception of his last start, when he broke badly and was pulled up, Our McKinney ran sound races, and in going 1 ,'JC 4-5 for fourth in the Labour Day Handicap recorded his best two miles. Ho displayed courage in his battle with Our Peggy in the Electric. Handicap and was narrowly beaten. As he is assessed on 4.32, Our McKinney is eligible for the Auckland Trotting Cup.

CUP ELIGIBLES TWO HORSES QUALIFY BAYARD AND RED FLUSH .Two horses. Red Flush and Bayard, became eligible by their wins at tho recfcnt meeting at Epsom for the Auckland Ccntonnial Gold Trotting Cup, of £llOO and gold cup valued nt .CIOO, limit 4.31, as horses assessed on 4.32 or better may compete. Red Flush won tho Jellicoe Handicap off 4.31 in 4.32 1-5, making his own paco throughout and running the first mile in 2.23 ii-o. Bayard, off the same mark, was third in 4.33. In tho Labour Day Handicap. Bayard, 1.34, also led throughput, although he set a faster paco over tho first mile in 2.18. and just held on to win from Red Flush, 4.32, who ran 4.25 2-5. Incidentally, both pacers nmdo their fastest tinus in tho Labour Day Handicap. Bayard , was trained last season by M. Stewart, who has Red Flush, but is now under the care of J. Geo, for whom ho was capably driven by K. Bell. Bayard and Red Flush should help to add interest to tho Auckland Cup contest, as should Sandusky,-who was placed each day, and Uenuku,' third in tho Rcmucra Handicap.. Sandusky and Uenuku did not disturb their mark of 4.81. Tho limit should suit most of the best of tho local horses and somo good ones from the South.. RETURN TO FORM DISPLAYS OF NELL VOLO A feature of tho Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting was tho return to form of tlio good trotting mare Nell Volo, and tho high-class displays she gavo from marks that appeared to givo hor littlo chance of even being in tho money. From 150 yds behind in tho Mountain Handicap, Noll Volo went out smartly, and with a fast run was almost with the leaders at tho slx-furlong post, to eventually finish fourth in 3.21, her time from post to post being 3.21, In tho Hillsboro' Handicap, two miles, she was slov to get going from 108 yds behind, taking 20s to reach tho actual post. Gradually making up leeway, anil trotting in perfect style, Nell Volo finished third in 4 32 1-5, tier time from post to post being 4.20 1-5. Nell Volo and her trainer-driver. F. J. Smith, were accorded an ovation. The perfcrmanccH of Nell Volo, after a spell of four years until the August meeting, give the impression that she will attain her former high standard, and raco prominently at Addington next month. All going well, Nell Volo may attempt to break tho 2.3 2-5 milo record of Worthy Queen, at tho Auckland Summer Meeting.
