HOUSES IN EUROPE HIGH OPINION OF PHARIS CHALLENGER FOR ST. LEGER " In Corrida M. Marcel Boussac had the best filly, in Europe and in Pilaris |I believe he has tlmbest colt," stated a writer in an English exchange after a visit to the French sportsman's' training quarters outside Chantilly. Pilaris is •regarded as a serious rival for Blue Peter jn the Doncaster St. Legcr, and the same writer says:—"J am coming over to see him win the St. Letter on September 6." Pharis is described as a very dark brown or black colt, with a few white hairs in his tail. He is not ah eleganthorse, being 011 the. heavy side, but he is welt proportioned and has wonderful heart room. His gaskins stand out, and he has immense power behind. He travels well and- never takes it out of himself, , Pharis has Avon his three races and lias improved in appearance each time. He was big when, he w'oll the Prix de Noailles, looked fitter , for the French Derby, and better still ;for tho Grand fPrix. It was in the last-named race that Pharis set tho, seal to his reputation. Hidden by E. C. Elliott, he was completely shut in, but when at last he found an opening Pharis went past Tricanieron, who was leading in the straight, at a pace which seemed to leave the other standing. He won with the greatest of ease, and rarely, if ever, says an observer, has a colt displayed such an extraordinary turn of speed over the final furlong and a-half of a fast-rim long-distance race. Pharis is M. Boussac's first Grand Prix winner. This is the ■ most valuable race in France and the winners share on-this occasion was 1,148,000 fiance.
