RECORDS EXPUNGED

TRENTHAM <TRA.CK SHORT TIMES MOT RECOGNISED SEVERAL GALLOPERS AFFECTED Recently, .when the race track at Trentham was resurveyed, it was discovered that the various distances were short in different degrees and thus automatically nullified the records made 011 that course. After correspondence with tile Australian Jockey ,Club, the Wellington Racing' Club has expunged all official best figures made at Trentham and hitherto recognised •as New Zealand or Australian records, or both. Included in the list is Gloaming's time of 455, which he ran in the Kelburn Plate 011 January 22, 1921. It was claimed that • thej time had been run over the full distance, but subsequently it was explained that this track also was short at the time of the race. The other records to be expunged were, the five-furlong Australian ajid New Zealand figure of 08s held jointly by Paganelli and Amigo and equalling that of Machine Gun at Riccarton; the New Zealand mile record .of 1.36, held by Oratory, and equalling that of Courtcrpft at Ellerslie; the 11-furlprig record of 2.163, credited, to Glare; that of 2.29 for a mile and a-lialf, run by Compris, and the mile and threequarters in 2.56}, run by La Moderne. The world's record for half a mile on a turning track of 46 l-5s is shared by Donau, who made that time at Santa Anita in 1909 and by Amon, who registered his time at Juarez (Mezico) in 1911. The best for the distance in Australia appears to be that of Esperanto in winning tho last Debutant Stakes at Caulfield in 47^s.

! TURF JOTTINGS TRACK' AND STABLE GOSSIP It is understood that Beaulivre will open his three-year-old programme at tho Combined Hunt's meeting at-New Plymouth, after which he will pursue his career in the Wanganui, Avondale and Great Northern Guineas, the Harcourt Cup at Trentham and the New Zealand Derby and Canterbury Cup at Riccarton. Clipper made a good impression when he Avon the Trial Stakes at Whangarei in April, his last run as a two-year-old. and tho manner in whiclr ho has been working indicates that he will not be long in extending his record this season. By Vaals from Cradle Song, ho is a half-brother to Hushing and Crooning, and, like him, he should prove a useful winner.

As a result of striking himself several days ago, Knight of Australia has boon sore ami lie will not be a runner in the Harris Memorial Hack and Hunters' Hurdles at the Pakuranga Hunt meeting to-day. Knight of Australia had been going along nicely in his preparation and it was unfortunate for A. Kemp that he should have put himself out of action on the eve of tho ineetine. Tho four-year-old Crestman, a candidate lor the second division of the Sylvia .Park Handicap at Ellerslie today, was bred in Australia, being by Ruffler from Lady Isobel, by Moabite from Mnngostan, by Polyerates from Manna, by Varco. Crestman, who is trained by A. McGregor, shaped creditably in'his first and only start last season, when he ran in the Trial Handicap at Hawera in February. I Cornaro, who was passed in at 220gns. at the dispersal sale of the late Mr. W. Higgins' horses, has been acquired by Messrs. H. D. Caro, P. G. Harkness and L. Reid, Hamilton. Cornaro is a three-year-old gelding by Heroic from Ash tar, by Moabite from Otterform, by Multiform from Otterden, by Sheen. Ashtar is a*half-sister to Otford, dam of Manfred, aiid Otterform was a half-sister to Martian and a full-sister to Bonifonm.

, .Tho black colt Cillas that W. Hob.v has brought from Whangarei to Ellerslie to take part in the Two-year-old Parade to-day appears to be fairly forward and has attracted a good deal of attention from track-watchers. By Diatomous from Monanui, Cillas looks tho part of an early galloper and in appearanco he compares favourably with most of tho juveniles working at headquarters. Cillas is ono of tho first of the stock of Diatomous to be trained.

Althugh lie, won only one race, Silver Stick was one of the best of last season's two-year-olds and he wound tip by running second with 9.6 at EUerslie in tlu> autumn. After a period of rest and steady work, Silver' Stick is commencing to move along faster in his preparation for spring racing and the effortless manner .in which he is recording fast sprints augurs, well for his prospects. Silver Stick, is still eligible for the hack class and should be an excellent prospect for the Champion Plate at Avondale next month.
