WINTER WOOL SALE

AUCTION AT AUCKLAND FIXTURE THIS MORNING - ' •. ; ''i . OFFERING OF 2000 BALES Slightly more than 2000 bales will be offered at the annual Auckland winter wool sale to be held at the Chamber of Commerce at !10 a.m. today. Most of the buyers arrived during the week-end after attending; the Napier fixture on Friday, and they were engaged 111 appraising the clip at the Parnell stores yesterday. Practically all the offering will conx-. prise crutchings. The percentage of fleece wool is much smaller than usual, owing to the small carry-over remaining after the previous selling season. The offering of fleece wool will be too small to give any indication of prices for the new season, which will open at Auckland in November, for buyers may require a little wool urgently, being willing to pay slightly mor? for ft. It is expected that prices on a clean scoured basis will closely follow those ruling at recent oddmcnt sales in the south. Prices for crutchingo have generally been higher than those.of last year, while fleece woOls have met with a brisk demand. : America is expected to operate fairly s;rongly for crutchings, with finer wools going mainly to Bradford and the Continent. Local mills may operate for some lines. After the Auckland fixture the next oddment sale will be held .it Gisborne on Thursday. The South Island "auctions are as follows:—C'hristchurch. August 22; Timaru, August 23; Duaedin, August 25.
