WORK FOR MAORIS
TRANSFER AWAY FROM HOME MARRIED MEN CONCERNED [BY TELEGRAPH—PRKSS ASSOCIATION] * . . v HASTINGS. Monday A large number of Maoris assembled in Hastings yesterday to discuss the question of the transfer of married men from this district to other parts of the East Coast, and the outcome of tho meeting was a deputation to Mr. E. L. Cullen, M.P. The meeting was a representative 6no of various . Maori pas in the district surrounding Hastings, and the statements of the representatives indicated that the Maori people were considerably upset at tho decision of the department to transfer married men, as had / been doiie with single men, to Tolaga Bay aiid Maori ■ development schemes in the AVairoa district. It was pointed out that as a result of the transfer of married men some families would be placed in unfortunate circumstances. " Mr. Cullen assured the representatives that immediately upon his return to Wellington to-day he would place the representations before the Minister of Employment.
