TARANAKI FIRM'S GOODS CUSTOMS GIVES POSSESSION WITHDRAWAL OF COURT CASE [by telegraph—press abSiOciatio:;] NEW PLYMOUTH, Mondiy Because the collector of customs at New Plymouth to-day gave possession of the goods in dispute the action of G. C. Ward, Limited, against the collector, which was to have been heard at the Magistrate's Court to-morrow, has been withdrawn by the plaintiff firm. The goods were purchased with the firm's overseas funds without a licence.
When the case came on an the Magistrate's Court on July 17 an adjournment was granted to allow of further negotiation and inquiry inio the merit of the firm's case. The result of these negotiations was the delivery of the goods which had been held in bond for some months.
The goods, it is stated, were imported through no deliber.ite attempt at over-importation. The arose when the restrictions, were, announced curing the Christmas rush and definite details on many points were not available. The goods were cleared-through the customs and full duty and sales tax pa ; .d before the action was started.
