CUSTOMS FIGURES
PORT OF OTAGO RETURNS INCREASE IN REVENUE [r>Y TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION 3 DUNEDIN, Saturday Customs returns at the port of Otago during June amounted to an increase of over £2200 on those of June, 1935. For the first quarter of the financial year receipts in this section showed an increase of over £9OOO, compared with the April-June period last year. The June figures are as follows: — Customs duty, £59,061 (£56,792); beer duty, £20,431 (£22,391); sales tax, £25.210 (£24,400); petrol tax, £IS,72S (£15,412); gold tax, £1558 (£1322); tvre tax, £287 (£646); wool tax, £l2l (£136); totals, £128,898 (£123,846). The returns for the quarter are as follows: Customs duty, £150.247 (£171.149); beer duty, £73,20/ (£75.790); petrol tax, £02,2J0 (£46,950); sales tax, £52,47 C (£74,388); tyre tax, £2028 (£2OSS); gold tax, £-1120 (£5725); wool tax, £1232 (£870); totals, £395,250 (£383.074). „ Returns for the half-year are: —Customs dutv, £368.988 (£380,712); beer duty, £161.502 (£162,259); sales tax, £162.107 (£151.263); petrol tax, £105,097 (£99,996); gold tax, £9002 (£10,395): tvre tax, £5173 (£3633); wool' tax, £2570 (£2428); totals, £820,343 (£817,387).
