ASSAULT AND THEFT
ATTACK ON FARMER LABOURER FOUND GUILTY [by telegraph—press association] HASTINGS, "Wednesday Found guilty on two counts in relation to a charge of assault on a farmer at Otamauri on February 6, Thomas George Flanigan, farm labourer, of no fixed abode, was remanded for sentence by Mr. Justice Smith in tho Napier Supreme Court. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, "was charged that with intent to disable he did actual bodily harm to William George Corbin in his house at Otamauri by striking him on the bark of the head with a hammer, and with the theft of a sum of money from the dwelling of Corbin. The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. H. B. Lusk, in opening the case, said Corbin on the day in question had returned from the home of a neighbour to his own house and while opening a window the alleged assault occurred. Corbin was struck three blows on the head, as the result of which he spent three weeks in hospital. Accused denied being in the vicinity of the house at the time. After several witnesses had been heard the jury retired and returned within eight minutes with a verdict of guilty.
