DR. PETER BUCK

INVITATION TO RETURN SIR ERNEST DAVIS' DESIRE SERVICES FOR NEW ZEALAND A statement that he would like to see Dr. Peter Buck brought back to New Zealand, so that his wealth of knowledge of anthropology might be used to the benefit of all in the Dominion, was made yesterday by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, in extending a welcome to a party of young Maori leaders attending a conference in Auckland. This remark was received with loud applause. The Mayor congratulated the Maori race on. having produced such a distinguished scholar as Dr. Buck, and referred to the high position he held at Yale University, in.the United States. Sir Ernest added that he would like to see some sort of institution dealing with anthropology set up in the Dominion if Dr. Buck could bo persuaded to return.-

Sir Ernest said he proposed to write to Dr. Buck immediately to invite him to spend some part of the centennial year in the Dominion.
