ASSAULT ON CHILD
THREE YEARS' DETENTION Having admitted two charges of indecently assaulting a girl eight years of age, Charles. Montague Mann, gardener, aged 51, was sentenced by Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court yesterday. The Crown was represented by the Crown Prosecutor, Air. V, R. Meredith. His Honor said ho had to consider the accused's general conduct and history. Over a considerable period be bad been putting himself in circumstances where such offences could be, and possibly were, repeated. A sentence had to be imposed that would keep him from children for some time. This was the kind of offence that might do incalculable harm and it must be adequately punished. Prisoner would be sentenced to three years' reformative detention.
