Old age pensioner inmates of the Auckland Infirmary have been allowed £1 Is 8d a month as pocket money, the remainder of the pension going to the Hospital Board for their keep. One, who signs himself "Lucullus," writes to the New Zealand Herald complaining that although the age benefit under the Social Security Act is £1 12s Od a mouth more than the old age pension, the inmates concerned received the same rebate for personal expenses. He asserts that the board has thus benefited by between £IOO and £2OO. It is explained by the secretary of the board, Mr. C. L. Graingc, that the question of what proportion of the age benefit should be paid to the board and what proportion should go to the inmate has been discussed, hut finality has not yet been reached.
