ACTIVITY IN CITY FIGURES FOR FEBRUARY OVER £134,000 IN TOO MONTHS Already the amount of building activity in tho city is showing a substantial increase on tho expenditure of recent years, the figures for the first two months of the year being well in excess of £30,000 over the amounts spent in tho two previous years. The 176 building permits issued by the City Council during February represented a value of £6G,127, as against £59,070 for the 117 permits issued in February of last year. The total for the two months of thiß year is £134,162, while in January and February of last year tho expenditure was £96,460, and £99,250 for the first two months of 1937.

Included in tho permits last month were those for 30 new dwellings. Among tho larger jobs were the new hall and church centre at the Pitt Street Methodist Church and the new clubhouse at the municipal golf links.
